Metal stools and chairs in saturated hues have been creeping into interiors over the past couple of years, but now you can bring a pop of extra energy into your home or work office space with the juicy colours of the MODE PLUS from Accent Furniture Group.
At the recent ORGATEC 2014 event in Germany, the largest office interiors bi-annual expo in the world, we saw that this trend is going to expand further into work environments – and why not, metal is durable, long lasting and a material that looks great powder coated, making it the ideal choice to play with rainbow hues.
Cologne-based label Bordbar is known for using old furniture in different contexts, with the transformation of authentic airplane trolleys, vintage cinema seats and steel lockers into functional furniture for private use. At ORGATEC, the brand set a new benchmark with its bordbar cube edition.
Instead of a trolley serving as an individual piece of vertical furniture, the cube claims the horizontal space as a sideboard. The arrangement of the metal modular elements as a shelf unit has countless combinations including 3D design ideas, but more important, it comes in a choice of 8 different colour hues for total individualisation.
Stackable, connectable components were also seen in abundance at the show. Products that save valuable and limited worktop or floor space are on the rise, with businesses and homes getting creative with storage solutions and design.
Versatility is the key to Stefan Diez’s New Order system for HAY – which began life as a simple, contemporary shelving system and is now a fully-fledged office system. The units are completely configurable –doors, walls, desks and deep trays can be added and changed as required without tools. It is like building with giant LEGO® blocks and customising it to your needs; and like LEGO®, there offer amazing colourways for the metal. We loved their trolleys – wouldn’t they look great as an instant kitchen island?
ENEA Design and Radius Furniture took coloured metal one step further at the show, now offering colour on their metal table legs in addition to their stylish chairs. What an easy yet highly desirable option! Present offerings usually only have coloured metal legs on children’s furniture, leaving adults just a choice of black or white. It’s a great idea to inject colour into your work or home environment.
